- Primary Reading: Proverbs 22-23
Key Verse
"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold." — “Proverbs 22:1”
Devotional Thought
The world often measures success by the accumulation of wealth, the size of one’s estate, or the prominence of one’s title. However, the wisdom of Proverbs reminds us that there is a currency far more valuable and enduring than silver or gold: a good name.
A “good name” is not about fame or the curated image we project to the world; it is about character. It is the reputation earned through consistent integrity, kindness, and faithfulness. While riches can be lost in a market crash or spent in a season of waste, a reputation for honor and truth is a fortress that protects a person’s legacy and opens doors that money cannot unlock.
In today’s fast-paced digital age, it is easy to prioritize “reach” and “influence” over character. We are tempted to trade our integrity for a shortcut to success or a moment of applause. But the pursuit of “great riches” at the expense of a good name is a losing bargain. When the noise fades, what remains is not the balance of our bank accounts, but the testimony of our lives.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to value the things that You value. Grant me the strength to walk in integrity, even when it costs me material advantage. May my life be a reflection of Your truth and grace, and may the name I leave behind be one that honors You above all else. Amen.
