Scripture Readings

  • Primary Reading: Revelation 12

Key Verse

Revelation 12:9 — “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Devotional Thought

The dragon is angry, and he is not hiding it. Revelation 12 pulls back the curtain on the unseen war behind every trial the people of God endure, and it tells us plainly where the rage comes from: the dragon knows his time is short. He has already lost the war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought; the dragon and his angels fought; and they prevailed not. That old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, was cast out into the earth. What follows is not the flailing of a victor but the fury of a defeated foe. He cannot reach the man child, who was caught up unto God and to His throne, so he turns his wrath on the woman, and then on the remnant of her seed, “which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” If you belong to Christ, you are in that remnant. The opposition you face is not random; it is aimed.

Yet notice how heaven equips the woman. She is given two wings of a great eagle and a place prepared of God in the wilderness, where she is nourished. When the serpent pours out a flood after her, the earth itself helps her and swallows it up. God’s protection is not the absence of danger but the certainty of provision in the middle of it. The wilderness is not abandonment; it is a table set by God’s own hand. Consider your own life this ordinary Thursday in April. The pressure you feel, the accusation that wears at you, the fear that rises before you can manage it—these may be the dragon’s short-lived wrath, not God’s absence. And the loud voice in heaven gives the remedy: “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” Not by strength, not by cleverness, but by the blood of the Lamb and a testimony spoken in faith.

That victory is already declared. “Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ.” The accuser who stood before God day and night to condemn the brethren has been cast down. Whatever he whispers against you, the blood of the Lamb answers louder. So the call today is not to be afraid of the dragon’s wrath but to stand in the finished victory of the Lamb, trusting the place God has prepared for you and speaking the testimony He has given you. The heavens are told to rejoice. So may we.

Reflection

  1. When you feel accused or attacked, do you rehearse the dragon’s threats or the Lamb’s blood? What would it look like today to answer accusation with the finished work of Christ?
  2. The woman was nourished in a wilderness place prepared by God. Where has God been quietly sustaining you in a season you would not have chosen?

Prayer

Lord God, we thank You that the victory is already Yours. The dragon was cast out, and the accuser of the brethren is silenced by the blood of the Lamb. When his wrath rises against us, give us the wings of Your provision and the courage of a faithful testimony. Nourish us in whatever wilderness You have prepared, and let us not love our lives so much that we shrink from confessing Jesus Christ. Rejoice in us, and through us, until the short time of the enemy is finished and Your kingdom stands forever. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
